Aadmi ka time achcha chal raha ho toh bichda hua yaar bhi airport pe mil jaata hai. 😊
Interestingly he was covering one of the award functions when I walked up and picked up mine.
I got a call from him later, when I was leaving the venue, saying I watched you go up on stage.
I believe in cycles, circles. Completion. That in the end, there is resolution.
Barkat and me started our careers around the same time. Him as assistant editor, myself as a production executive.
We got bumped up back to back. Me in the first month to associate director, him to an editor subsequently.
And we had a good run together for 18 months. Not once did our episode tape get rejected on technical grounds.
And I say this with great pride. Because we took pride in the work we did.
Barring the one time when the production guy fcuked up and failed to deliver the tape on time.
I faxed in my resignation that night. Which of course got rejected summarily the next day.
I used to hand deliver the episode tape myself if we were in a deadline and/or it was late night, and would wait for the technical team at 'In Mumbai' channel to approve it, while Barkat waited at the studio for an all clear.
I would call him on approval, and both of us would then head back to out respective homes and crash.
The best guy I have worked with till date. Period.
Barkat switched from editing to sound, and now does live sound for cricket matches and other sporting events.
And he knows am fighting the good fight.
Cheers to both of us.
