Name: Domonique Natasha Occupation: Music Teacher/Marketing Director, SHE Chicago . "Honestly, I started wearing my natural hair back in 2015 because it no longer took to a perm. Regardless of the type of perm I used, my hair was like NO!! So, I listened. I wore tons of Crocheted hair styles as I transitioned because it was much easier to manage + I LOVE the versatility! I've never considered myself a #naturalista
but I began to wear my hair out as an example for my daughters. How could I convince them their coils were beautiful if mine were tucked away? . I started to get #thecutlife
itch back in the 1st quarter of 2018, & my friends convinced me to cut it all off, in front of a huge crowd at the #silverroomblockparty
(Shoutout to @illustrious_cuts
)... But almost immediately, I thought "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" My unintentional big chop has turned into a journey of self love & real reflection. My hair was full, thick, & unbeknownst to me, a major confidence booster. Without it, I had to learn to embrace my natural beauty with no enhancements. Im still working on that, but everytime a young girl comes to me and says they want their hair to be just like mine... Everytime I spot another sister with a dope fade & we wink at eachother... Everytime my own children tell me Im "so pretty with my yellow hair"... I know the journey is worth it."
