Ni Hao from TAIWAN!! 😃
When I told people I was headed to Taiwan, the most common reaction I got was that of puzzlement, followed by a very incredulous ‘why?’. And it wasn’t in a curious way. It was the way your best friend might ask if she finds out you’ve decided to go back to a toxic ex. ‘Why Preethi, why?’ You feel me? 😄
Now that I’m here, I can safely say that Taiwan is a massively underrated country. You ask me why I came here? I’ll ask you why you think you shouldn’t. What do you look for when you travel? Something very different from home? Good food? Fascinating history? Vibrant culture? Sweet humans? Convenience? Luxury? Roughing it out? Nature?
It’s here. It’s. All. HERE. This little island country has it all and more, and two weeks is simply NOT enough to experience everything it can give you.
So what’s it like?
Yes, there is a bit of a language barrier. Most of the folks here don’t speak English at ALL. But they will go OUT OF THEIR WAY to help you. They’ll stop someone who might speak English and get them to translate, or they’ll pop open Google Translate on their phone, but they’ll do everything they can to help you.
Vegetarian food can appear to be hard to come by, but snoop around a little and you’ll find local street stalls selling ONLY vegetarian items! And NO compromise on flavours 😍
The level of convenience here is unbelievable, and life is simplified in so many ways. Travel in and around the country is SO EASY! I’ll be doing another post on that, with all the deets.
I’ve been introduced to a country and culture that is completely different to ANYTHING I’ve seen before, and it’s so, so interesting.
Long story short, Taiwan is blowing my mind one day after the next, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Leeeeettle delinquent on stories because I’ve been sick and have been juggling quite a bit on a very tight schedule, but I’m catching you up from where I am now, so stay tuned! 😃
