Some late night velocity based work @runningironperformance working strength-speed implementing the @trainwithpush band which measures barbell velocity & power production 💥 — Just as one would use weight as a metric for progression, VELOCITY can be used as such. Using the force velocity curve along with principles like minimum velocity threshold (MVT) we can systematically target 🎯 areas for improvement for increased performance — What I personally like about VISUAL data, is that it allows me to “LINK” my self perceived body awareness (a somewhat non measurable metric) to data that I CAN SEE 👀 I then can make adjustments accordingly — As a coach, some of the many benefits of using velocity based training is that the data provides insight for load prescription. Depending on the training session goal, we can ADJUST the weight to the athletes current state. VBT also allows for INSTANT feedback for the athlete. Such metric can have an effect on INTENT 🤔 of the movement. Improved motivation/effort = a greater neuromuscular adaptation. Literature shows us that when an athlete is given power/velocity cueing, their output increases. In terms of maximal strength work, VBT allows us STIMULATE without unnecessary overload 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

Today was a great session for deadlifts. I finally feel like I've perfected my form and the weights felt light. Where there are positives however, there are also a few negatives. Part of the reason I felt so strong today is because I had an extra meal before I trained but my belly felt full and uncomfortable. As you can see I'm not using my red lever belt in the video. My stomach was so full that I couldn't properly brace my core so I had to borrow a belt from the gym that had a looser fit so that I could fully pull in a big breath of air which made this weight feel like cake. Who said cake?! Where?! Ahem, sorry. Fat boy problems. Anyway, the only thing making today's sets hard was my doodoo cardio vs. high reps. Low bar squat test from last week. The socal powerlifting and boba scene is a surefire catalyst for strength. @tessliftz was way ahead of the curve on this one. Wanted to see how much immediate carryover front squatting had to my competition squat and I'm really proud of the results. After 3 months of only front squatting, a long drive up and two hours of sleep (aka excuses for no PR 😅) I hit 3lbs under my all time best. Haven't gotten this since 2015, so it's a lesson in just not giving up for me. Shoutouts to @bartellbarbell for opening up his doors to us. Went 8/9 overall Best lifts Squat: 407lb/185kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️ Bench: 269lb/122.5kg⚪️⚪️⚪️ Deadlift: 500lb/227.5kg⚪️⚪️⚪️ Honorable mention: misgrooving my squat opener at 396lb and falling on my ass 😂 🔴🔴🔴 Went into this meet really aiming to go 9/9. I made sure that didn’t happen when I promptly missed my squat opener. Not really sure what happened, but I know i was on my toes during the descent. It kind of rattled me if I’m being honest and led to me erring on the conservative side for all my subsequent attempts. Just a case of meet day jitters 🤷‍♂️ I do believe that I had more in the tank on all of the lifts, but what are you gonna do? #tbt to my powerlifting days, my last powerlifting meet to be exact. I set 4 world records and called it a wrap. I took a good two years off of consistent barbell training after that, but am so happy I found my way back to it with a great coach @elevate_taylor , great gym @elevatestpete , and a great team @elevateweightlifting. I’m a much better athlete than I was back then. I am much more consistent, patient, and respectful of my programming, my recovery, my body, and then process. 💪🏽🏋🏻‍♀️😴 — This week had some challenges with getting into the gym, which I didn’t expect since I tend to be good at prioritizing my gym time. Despite the obstacles, I was motivated to re-evaluate my schedule and see where I could squeeze in a little more sleep and some other priorities in my life. The solution? Work out at home. I actually have, and have had, a home gym since about 2012, but I prefer to train with a coach and other people. However, I decided this week I’m going to program two days a week at home to meet my new goals of sleep, gre studying, and more time with my Little Samara #BBBS . So I dusted off my gear, gave the gym/brewery a deep clean, and moved some stuff around to give it all a fresh feel. Sadly it’s the most Eden (my #sabco #brewmagic ) and Eve (my 14gal conical) have been touched in months, but that’s alright. They will play a bigger role in my life again one day soon. ⚗️🍻
