I did my first deadlift at Functional Athletics CF with 145lbs on the bar and I was so so excited! Buuut deadlifts are always worth being excited about. Last Saturday, two and a half years later, I lifted 374lbs. Thanks @blondeoctopus for capturing the moment, being supportive, and being a new strong friend 💪 there were so many awesome people! It was an wonderful day, glad my phone, even though it was covered in chalk, caught my excitement. Happy to be part of the @bcpowerliftingassociation community, now training onward to provincials! Been hella busy with work and my babies I’m just dying to get back into the gym to start my next meet prep. I went 7/9 in my meet. Here is a little throw back from September 2016 😨 It was my first time deadlifting 405 lbs. Nowadays I don’t max out anymore because there is really not much benefit form doing so but I’m intrigued to know if I can do more 😂... I’m going to start picking up some heavier deadlifts to get me ready for max out day. 💪🏼 - Those of you who do deadlifts on a regular basis, how much is your one rep max? 😱 - @joel_diet and I used to max out almost every week back in the day just to compete against each other lol. Good all times! - So should you lift heavy weight on deadlifts to rip its benefits? Answer: not even! You’re better off doing multiple sets with a moderate weight that allows you to compete 8-12 repetitions, and if you want strength gains then 3-5 repetitions. - In my opinion the deadlift is the most complete exercise you can possibly do in the gym because it engages every single muscle in your body. So when in doubt always deadlift. Deadlifts are great to load the posterior chain of the body which can improve posture, develop core strength, and of course give you strong legs. The only issue here is that you can really injure yourself easily if you don’t know the right form. In the past, I have made several mistakes when deadlifting that kept me out of the gym for a few days so I learned form experience what to do and what to avoid. Now I’m thinking about doing a YouTube video explaining everything about the deadlift, including how to warm up for it and how to execute the movement.
