Omuzlarınız dik, yüzünüz karşıya doğru bakmalı. Yavaşça bar'ı dizlerinize sürterek yukarı çekin en yukarı geldiğinizde ise kalçalarınızı sıkın. Yeni başlayanlar hareketi tamamen öğrenene kadar kesinlikle hafif kilolar ile yapmalıdır çünkü sakatlanma riskleri doğurabilir. Ayrıca deadlift'in iki ayrı türü daha vardır.
