I get a lot of DMs asking “how do you travel so much?” The answer people never expect is that I pay for it! I’m not sent by work, I’m not paid to travel (but I’d like to be, hmu @delta @hyatt @etc
), my parents don’t pay for me, I just love travel and I budget for it. You can too if you prioritize it! .
For me, it came with REALLY hard work. I’m not saying this to toot my own horn 🎺, but I know that 43% of the women following me are 13-24, and I want you to know that what you do now matters. I put myself through college with an academic full ride scholarship and graduated with a 3.93. I had a bunch of internships. I worked at @yelp
in sales for 8 years and was one of the top producers my whole career because I worked hard. I put 10% of every check to savings, 15% to 401k, invested in stock and property, donated to charities I like, and then allocated much of the rest to travel. I don’t drink/spend $ at bars, and while I buy a lot of clothes I don’t buy expensive ones. But the honest truth is I made a lot. A lot of people tell me “sales is not for me” when I say that’s how I made enough to travel, but if you don’t want to work a job that pays a lot (sales isn’t the only option), then you can’t complain about not being to afford things that cost a lot. “Get rich quick” isn’t a thing. And you don’t know until you try! I can’t say I’m obsessed with sales, but I’m obsessed with the life it’s given me and I know I’ll find another sales job when I look again for work. If a high stress/high paying job isn’t for you, you can still save money for travel, even if it’s with less frequency. .
I don’t mean to make anyone feel bad if it’s not within your abilities or situation (feeding a family for example), but people ask all the time and that’s my best answer! I believe you can do it too if you work hard and prioritize it. And if you don’t want to travel, that’s fine too. We all live different lives - some with travel, some with families, some working a career you love so much you don’t want to leave, and each choice is great in its own way. My best tip is work hard in whatever you choose to do and it will pay off 😊
