Many of us make the mistake of putting the intensity of a workout before good form. It is not about how fast you finished the WOD. It is more about the quality of your workout. The better you are with the movements, the faster you will be push yourself. You can be the fittest of the bunch, or just a new member starting off. Regardless of your level, you hold yourself accountable for your actions. The same principle applies; Technique, Consistency, before Intensity. The more you practice and perfect your skills, the better you will be at heavier weights during a wod. Progressions. Embrace it. Allow yourself to work on those movements that are challenging for you. Patience, patience and more patience. It works. I see it every day. 1. Technique Learn the proper technique first. Ask questions of the trainer so you are 100% sure or what it is your trying to achieve. Get the trainer to watch over your form and keep working until it’s the best it can be. 2. Consistency Practice the movement and be able to perform it to best of your ability every time. This does not mean for 5 reps when the trainer comes over and you know they are watching. This means for the other 10 reps when the trainer is not watching. 3. Intensity Intensity is what we all should be striving for as this is the key element that drives success and results. Once you have mastered the basics of the movement you can add intensity in the form of a timed workout or a heavier load. Good form during intensity is not only important to stop the potential for injury, but to also make you stronger in that movement and help you to achieve the best results in your training. 📸 @mmiville_visuals @crossfitcollective @comptrain.co #crossfit #crossfitlife #crossfitter #fitness #workout #technique #progression #trusttheprocess #patience #learn #besmart #changehappens #health #wod #programming #persistence #mindset #growthmindset #train #crossfitcollective

This year’s Explorers Club Annual Dinner (ECAD) was a truly memorable event, being in the presence of Apollo astronauts Charles Duke (Apollo 16), Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11), Walter Cunningham (Apollo 7), Al Worden (Apollo 15), Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9), Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17), Michael Collins (Apollo 11), Fred Haise (Apollo 13). They still have a wicked sense of humour and the whole room fell to silence as they regaled tales of their epic journeys into space - including one of how they managed going to the toilet in zero gravity! A true demonstration of what can be achieved by those who have the ambition, inquisitiveness and maybe a touch of crazy :) to boldly tread where no man / woman has gone before. Long may their work encourage others to follow in their footsteps so we can gain a greater understanding of our universe, our home.
This time last year 🔷 I cut my hair short, short. Felt vulnerable, had a cry! 🔷 I think it visually signified a big change in my life. And it was my way of making a mark to move forward 🔷 I was in an emotionally abusive relationship. Sometimes it was subtle other times in your face, but almost always out of the sight of others 🔷 Fortunately the therapy I had previous to me getting in this situation made me strong in terms of how much I could handle, but weak with personal boundaries and allowing myself to be treated like crap. I knew it wasn’t me so I excused someone else’s behaviour as I knew it came from their own issues and trauma 🔷 Either way, I now know that behaviour is never acceptable. If you wouldn’t accept it from a stranger or friend then certainly do not accept it from your partner 🔷 It’s not easy to leave these places as they are ultimately confusing and play on your own insecurities and issues 🔷 Well phase .... (insert number) is happening now. 🙌🏻🙌🏻 People, even the silent treatment is a form of emotional abuse. Don’t stand for that shite. It may seem small but these things build. If you can’t speak your true feelings in a relationship for fear of a ‘bad’ reaction, then perhaps it’s time to have a word with yourself 🔷 Taking responsibility, not blaming others and working on this stuff isn’t easy, but the buck stops with you and the outcome will be so much better 🔷 You got this girl/boyfriend 🖤🙋♀️🙋🏻♂️
Working in media as a journalist of color has made one thing abundantly clear: There is a severe lack of nuance in the way the media depicts minorities, especially Muslims. Register today for our Know To Grow webinar on Thursday, presented by Rowaida Abdelaziz, a Huffpost journalist focused on reporting on civil rights and social justices issues within the Muslim and MENA communities. #LinkInBio #KnowToGrow
