| Architecture in Abu Dhabi |
When we told a friend we were stopping by Abu Dhabi on our way to Morocco, she, a progressive activist, gave us a disapproving look and mini-lecture. “But we just want to see the Louvre,” we protested weakly.
If strictly reviewed on architectural merits, the Louvre and Grand Mosque were breathtaking. They are exacting feats of construction and pertinent cultural artefacts- Arabic galacticism indeed.
The process of getting into the Grand Mosque was a well-oiled machine. All women were given an abaya (full body garment) to wear. We were given the red one (as seen in picture 4/4). Red robe for women - reminiscent of a famous novel 🤔 ?
