Today started off as planned... or so I thought. ⠀ ⠀ I moved my workout to this afternoon to take my man to the airport this morning. No big deal. I get off work at 3:30p. I would have plenty of time to workout, shower, eat and more. ⠀ But Mother Nature got really sad and cried frozen tears, covering this town in ice. Plus I like to play “how long can I stay on E” with my gas tank so I had to get gas on my way home and my gas tank was frozen shut. ⠀ An hour later, I finally got home to a all the technology upset with me. Finally! I got to workout at 5:15p. Now I’m spending my last hour of the day getting things done that I promised myself I would do. ⠀ ⠀ I may have threw a few fits and complained a bit but I got it all done and I am so thankful for my snow scraper and my home workouts on days like today. ⠀ ⠀ Now... who’s going to bring me wine? Today went much better than expected. On Friday, I took 365 for a hard single, so my thoughts were that today I’d try to match it or maybe beat it by 10-20lbs. And once I took 315 I knew I’d at least beat that 365, but wasn’t sure by how much. 355 moved, so did 385, I then went 405, and it moooooovvvvved while not giving the hip any trouble. So I went 425 with some still left in the tank. 50lbs under my best, and pain free. I couldn’t be happier with how today went. And I’m loving these ultra wide boys. I feel like they’re going to have a significant impact on my comp squat. I gotta say that tonight I did mighty good with dinner! I eat chicken on the regular but it’s not my favorite...... unless it’s battered, deep fried and comes with dipping sauce. This isn’t one of those meals tho☹️——————————————— I took some chicken boobies and marinated them in regular Italian dressing. Cooked them up in a pan with some EVOO and then added in chicken broth, lemon juice, capers and kalmata olives and simmered for a good 10 minutes. Kinda like a pipping hot jacuzzi for the chicken. I sprinkled some parsley on the end product and it would have made Gordon Ramsey proud. The noodle looKing stuff underneath is spiralized squash with some pesto. As you may know, one of my biggest flaws is my squat form. At 350 lbs, I couldn’t squat more than 475. My form has caused some annoyances in my lower back and hips, possibly caused by weakness in some areas, forcing my body to compensate. Now we are doing all we can to fix the form and improve depth before adding any weight on our shoulders. The squat to the left is my more current form. It may not be as deep as the other squat on the right but it does feel more stable, less annoying on the hams/hips, and butt wink, or rounding of the lower back is less prevalent. Neck pain can really be a….. Pain in the Neck??? But where is it coming from? Surely a nice deep massage can make you feel better but sometimes not in every case. In a lot of instances, neck pain is caused by a variety of issues. Most of the time, shoulder and neck muscles that are tight, strained and over-worked cause many symptoms including headaches, tightness and stiffness. But these symptoms can also be brought on from facet joints in the neck that become jammed and inflamed. These symptoms can also include a loss of range in the neck and sharp stabbing pains with certain positions and movements. So what are facet joints? Everybody has them. They are joints in the spine where one vertebrae (back bone) joins to the next (above and below). Each facet joint allows the vertebrae to move against the adjacent vertebrae to produce movements like bending, twisting and rotating. When inflamed or damaged, these joints don’t move well and can cause the symptoms mentioned above. Alright back on a real program! Day 1! Going to do a relatively low volume bodybuilding approach but progressive in weight and reps. Kind of a modified Dorian style. Started with some strength curve "activation" work with leg extensions to work the quads in a fully contracted position and super settled those with a very deep TRX squat to stretch the muscle out. Then worked upto 1 set of banded hack squats which I recently started doing but I love them. The reverse band makes the exercise keep getting harder as I go up and works the muscle through the whole range. Then did 2 overload sets on leg press to make sure were getting some weight in there! Then some calves because calves. Cable Chest Fly ————————————————————————— Benefit: This is a great exercise to hit after doing a bunch of chest exercises. I use this for a finisher to completely burn and tear my pectoral muscles. Perks of doing this exercises helps by putting less stress on the shoulder joints and muscle. It also puts more tension or isolating the muscle then when you do regular bench press. Another isolation movement that really focuses on the chest. Form: Have the machines at the top notch. Grab the handles and step forward and have your torso slightly at an angle to have better leverage. Havea slight bend on your elbows in order to prevent stress on the biceps , extend your arms to the side in a wide arc until you feel a stretch on your chest. Breathe in as you perform this portion of the movement. Has you pull the handles in front of you squeeze your chest for a split second and then release and bring your arms back to a starting position as your body stays stationary. Exhale while going back to the starting position. Most athletes I see have weak shoulder external rotators. These muscles are important for shoulder stability! . The 3 variations seen in the videos are about as fancy as I get with shoulder external rotation. I like to use the side lying variation for athletes who are coming back from injury or have an imbalance. The other 2 variations I will often include in warm-ups, as prehab/for general shoulder health, one being a below shoulder/head variation and the other being an above shoulder/head variation. . My big gripe with shoulder rotation exercises is that most people try to do them with too much weight, or bands that are way too thick! Slow them down and control them! Monday who? Lol it's a regular day as always but today is the last day of deload.. finished off with conventional deadlifts. decided to take a break from sumos. . I was worried that I wouldn't be able to pull this 275lbs because last time I did conventional deadlifts I was stuck at 265lbs I believe 🤔 or 255lbs I dont fucking remember lol that's how long I haven't been doing them.
