So, started with this dreary choked sky making me daydream of my trip to clean green beautiful #Taiwan
earlier this year, then looking through the handful of photos on my phone. Ending up with this picture on the Tamsui river bank. Was traveling with #family
to meet my amazing sister-in-law, Yunice, and adorable nephew, Roy (descriptions applicable interchangeably), resigned to stealing moments to explore while my parents (understandably) fawned over my totally fawnable-over nephew. Only to find Yunice armed with plans to fit in as many amazing sights and experiences into our visit as possible (yay)! Fortunately, baby Roy proved to be the keenest traveler himself, taking in everything with a curiosity seriously inspiring, and the sense of casual wonder only children possess. Now, here’s where it gets interesting (well, for me, anyway). Since I was about 16, all my ‘spiritual’ dealings have been channelled through only one ‘divine’ ‘entity’, #Kanzeon
Bosatsu (Guan yin in Chinese), the Buddhist Bodhisatva of compassion. By which I mean that when I thank or pray or grumble at the sky, is all directed at her, Kanzeon, the #mercifulgoddessofmercy.
So, imagine my face when on our first day there, Yunice exchanges my parents’ laid back plan of taking Roy to the park for a walk along this river, and we emerge out of the subway and move towards an oddly familiar mountain looming over the far bank. Mount guanyin. Named for its resemblance to the goddess(ish) Guan Yin in repose. Man, I can’t articulate all I was feeling as I dashed over to Yunice and confirmed that this was indeed that very #mountain.
She was quite amused at my reaction. And, I, I felt like I had portaled into a parallel dimension. Where #goddesses
guide mortals to their destinies... Anyhow, had to sepia this picture to ensure the outline of the mountain range was clearly visible, so day looks a lot dimmer than it actually was. And, my eyes are closed, hair is wild. But, I still #love
this picture. Maybe because we look so much like a tarot card or something. Lol.
