The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of addition of a normal-protein (NP) breakfast vs. a protein-rich (RP) breakfast on appetite and food intake in “breakfast-skipping” adolescents. What they found is that a breakfast rich in dietary protein led to increased satiety through increased fullness and PYY concentrations (appetite-regulating hormone) as well as reductions in appetite and energy intake.
They divided the participants into 3 groups: 1) Skip Breakfast 0 grams 2) Normal Protein 18 grams 3) High Protein 48 grams. The high protein group reported more satiation and less hunger at varying test times throughout the day. The interesting part here however is that the normal protein group ate the same amount at lunch as the breakfast skipping group, while the high protein group ate less.
Why? - a high protein breakfast produces a gradual and sustained increase in blood sugar. This not only keeps us satisfied longer but also has a large effect on the neurotransmitters and hormones (such as PYY and Grehlin) that control hunger, brain function and overall energy levels.
So what to take away from this?
1️⃣ Never skip breakfast! Especially when wanting to “cut” or diet or prep for a show or lose body fat/weight. Breakfast skippers actually end up putting on more weight (related to points discussed above but also more detail) and do not lose as much fat as those who eat high protein breakfasts.
2️⃣ So how much protein should you eat in the morning for brekkie? To get a similar/optimal effect I would stick to between 35 g - 50g of protein.

I’ve never felt like this after any comp before. I didn’t place,I didn’t even make it to top 10,I didn’t look the best but I felt amazing and I enjoyed every single second of it🤩
I have never felt more motivated,determined and ready to do it all over again,to put myself through that hard work and struggle! Just to prove myself I can give it a bit more this time and actually bring the package I wanted to the first time!
